Local Steel Building Providers
Frequently Asked Questions

This is an excellent question. Erection times virtually revolve around the size and complexity of your metal building kit along with the experience of the erectors. The estimated time of most steel buildings delivery is 6-8 weeks. As long as once the anchor bolts are received, that the concrete pad is placed with the anchor bolts in the correct location, then erection times will be faster. If the slab is prepared, with anchor bolts in place, once a 40x50 building is delivered, it should be erected in 4-5 days. It may take a couple days longer for larger buildings such as 60x100 steel buildings.

A prefabricated building is essentially a pre-engineered building that is fabricated at the manufacturing facility and shipped to a job location ready to assemble. Prefabricated buildings are designed in MBS software and are engineered to meet all local building loads and codes.

Steel building are awesome and are the quickest solution for a quality building. Key benefits are:

  • Fast manufacturing, delivery, and erection times.
  • All welding, punching, and cutting is completed before the building arrives.
  • The building is professionally designed for local regulations, loads, and codes in Alabama.
  • Assembly is easy as they come as bolt-together kits.
  • They are not limited to current size. Expansion is easy in the future.
  • Modifications are simple.

Metal building kits can come with insulation. Popular insulation for walls is 4" R21 and 6" R21 for the roof. Wall panels can also come with built insulation. When it comes to insulation, the best rated material is spray-in insulation. It is more expensive than standard vinyl insulation, but may be worth the extra cost.

Understanding the Prefab Building Construction Process

When it comes to constructing prefabricated metal buildings, understanding the complete building process is essential to getting the most for your money. Understanding the complete breakdown of the Alabama steel building construction process will benefit you as well as show you why metal buildings are the preferred builder’s choice for quick and easy construction. The following construction steps will give you a good understanding.

Step 1: Contact A Reputable Metal Building Supplier (That’s Us)

The first step in the metal building process is getting the right building. To do that, you must contact an honorable steel building provider. With so many fly-by-night companies popping up, it is essential to do your due diligence on any company you may consider purchasing from. Yes, you can purchase just the steel building kit and erect it yourself or hire erectors to erect it for you. We have found that the most cost-effective way is to hire our team to provide a turnkey metal building package. This way you only deal with one company, and eliminate unnecessary stress.

Step 2: Design and Engineered Drawings

Depending on where you live and what the end-use of your metal building will be, you may be required to obtain professional permit drawings for the building and concrete slab. Local governing officials often want to make sure that your metal building kit is constructed to meet local loads and codes. We provide these stamped engineered drawings with our metal building kits.

Step 3: Engineering and Manufacturing

Upon the completion of the design and engineering stage, the next stage is the fabrication, where the building is manufactured as a bolt together kit. The manufacturing length depends on the complexity of the steel building kit as well as other factors such as, will there be crane rails or additional buildings adjoined to this one. All buildings are manufactured according to the IBC (International Building Code) required by local governing authorities. Once fabrication has started, you can generally expect your building in 6-8 weeks. More complex buildings take a little longer.

Step 4: Site and Pad Prep

Preparing the site and pad for you new metal building is a very important step in the construction process. If permits are required for your project, then a professional engineer may need to design concrete slab plans as well as a site plan to qualify for permits. Local civil engineers are experts at getting exactly what you need to make sure your project passes all governing requirements. Civil engineers are responsible for acquiring soils reports, boundary and topographic surveys, SWPP, and more. Another critical part of the pad prep is selecting the correct soil type to build on. In many case, select fill is the desired material or construction.

Step 5: Prefab Building Framing and Erection

Once your pad is prepared and your new steel building package is delivered, the fun begins. It is required that customers have a fork lift available to off-load the delivery truck when it arrives. It is also recommended that you have a cleared and safe lay-down area to store the kit parts of your project before erection begins. Our metal building packages are the real deal, they come with rigid frames. The erection process consists of standing up the columns, attaching wall girts, purlins, wall sheeting, roof sheeting, bracing, and trim.

Step 6: Steel Building Sheeting

Once the building frame as been assembled, sheeting can begin. A popular wall sheeting is known as PBR panels. These are the standard and preferred wall panels for metal buildings. PBR panels come with water proof screws for a quick installation. When it comes to roofing, there are many choices for sheeting. Some choose to use PBR panels; however, for buildings with living quarters, it may make more since to have standing seam roofing, which prevents any possible leaking. When it comes to our metal building sheeting for walls and roofs, we have a large variety to choose from. In addition, with sheeting, we provide trim. Trim not only provides protection for the seams in your building, but it also can add an aesthetic appeal as well.

Step 7: Metal Building Accessories

Congratulations, your building is very near completion at this stage. The only thing remaining is the installation of accessories. If your building was not prefabricated with the location of doors and windows, this is a great time to field locate them in the desired locations. This is also the time that overhead doors are installed as well as louvers, skylights, wall lights, and exhaust fans. The options are endless on the accessories that can be added to a metal building kit.
